Going with the flow – I seldom make plans as I used to do, I tend to live in the now, you never know how the day will unfold, and without expectations, you wont be disappointed.

It was a windy October, Sunday evening, as I lay in bed thinking about tomorrow, 17th October was my wife’s birthday so I would take flowers to the cemetery (I know she not there but its what we do), then I was meeting a friend at 12 for coffee. It was then it occurred to me to send up a message to ask, what she would like to do for her birthday.

The answer came in an instant, “go to Herm”.

Herm is a small island a 20 minute ferry ride from St. Peter Port, my Guernsey home at this time. Margaret and I met in our teens while I was on holiday in Guernsey with a school friend.

Herm was the paradise island, the place we did our courting when I visited  from my home in Southampton. Margaret always loved to take a day trip when ever we had an opportunity. My thoughts came in, “it will be a rough trip”, “ I think its meant to rain” and I have an appointment at 12, at that I went to sleep.

I was woken early next morning by a text to say my friend couldn’t make the date for coffee. I looked out of the window and the sea was calm, I checked the weather forecast – it was sun and cloud.

OK, so off to the ferry for a day trip to Herm Island.

Herm is a mile and a half long and half a mile wide, with beautiful sandy beaches to the south and east, with pretty cliff walks to the west, from here you can see the island of Sark. There are no cars, one hotel and most of the properties are holiday cottages – Well, why not join me and my camera to see for yourself what Herm is like on an October day……………..
